Get 1/3 off most train fares across Britain, including Advance tickets. Perfect for day trips, family visits and adventures.

Average savings: £112 per year

When it’s valid

  • Almost anytime, with one exception:
    • Can’t be used during morning peak hours if travelling within the London & South East Network Railcard area. You can use the Railcard once Off-Peak tickets become valid – the exact time varies depending on the journey, but it’s usually between 8-10am.
  • No restrictions:
    • On weekdays after the morning peak (valid in the evening peak)
    • On weekends and Bank Holidays
    • For journeys outside the Network Railcard area or crossing into/out of it
  • There’s no minimum fare.

Where it’s valid

  • All National Rail services across Britain
  • London Underground and DLR in some cases (e.g. longer journeys crossing London or when buying London Travelcards)
  • Can be applied to an Oyster card for cheaper off-peak journeys around London on National Rail, Underground and DLR services (full details here).

If you’re a Greater London resident: You can get a 60+ Oyster or Freedom Pass for free travel around London after the morning peak. Combine this with a Senior Railcard for discounts on journeys beyond London – you’ll only need a ticket from the last station covered by your pass (e.g. Surbiton heading towards Bournemouth).

Who it’s for

  • Anyone aged 60+ at the time of purchase. You don’t need to be a UK resident – visitors are eligible too.
  • You’ll need proof of age (driving licence or passport).
  • The Senior Railcard only covers the named cardholder, and you’ll have to provide a clear photo. If you want to get a discount when travelling with family or friends, why not take a look at the other Railcards you can get?
